Why secure storage matters

Your original Will needs to be safe, recorded and retrievable.

Without the signed original, your executors may face delay, extra cost, or uncertainty about whether your wishes can be followed. If a Will was last known to be in the testator’s own possession and cannot be found after death, there can also be a presumption that it was intentionally destroyed to revoke it.

Professional storage helps reduce that risk. It keeps the signed original Will away from everyday loss, damage or accidental disposal, and creates a clear record of where it was held.

For Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), storage is slightly different from Will storage. A lost registered original can usually still be dealt with, but it can cause delay, cost and inconvenience when attorneys need to show a bank, care provider or other organisation that they can act.
