National Will Aid campaign highlights lack of wills — but free isn’t always best

Date: September 2025A new survey has once again highlighted just how many people in the UK don’t have a Will. According to research published this week, 56% of adults have no Will in place — and among those who do, many haven’t updated theirs for years.

This comes as Will Aid November approaches, a campaign encouraging people to write a Will through participating solicitors in exchange for a charitable donation. It’s positive that national attention is being drawn to the importance of planning ahead.

At Fern Wills & LPAs, we welcome anything that gets people thinking about wills — but we also believe it’s important to look closely at the detail. Not all free or charity-linked wills provide the best long-term outcome for clients. Issues with storage, updates, and hidden costs can sometimes leave families exposed.

We’ve written more about these pitfalls in our article: Are free wills really in your best interests?

A Will should be tailored to you, kept safe, and updated when life changes. That’s where professional guidance makes the difference.

If you’d like advice on reviewing or updating your Will, we’re here to help.
